New album by Armitage Shanks! Featuring new member Billy Childish!

Charge of the Shite Brigade marks a new chapter for Armitage Shanks, the raw British garage-punk outfit formed in Snodland, Kent in 1991 and closely associated with the Medway scene. Released by Damaged Goods, the album is particularly notable for the arrival of Billy Childish as a member of the band, bringing together two names whose paths have crossed throughout the history of the uncompromising Kent garage-rock underground.

Armitage Shanks built their reputation during the 1990s on deliberately rough-edged rock & roll that drew from garage punk, primitive rhythm & blues and the confrontational energy of early punk. Their recordings favored direct performances, ragged guitars and unpolished immediacy over studio refinement, placing them naturally alongside the wider Medway network of musicians and groups surrounding Childish and the fiercely independent garage scene.

Billy Childish brings an extraordinary history of his own to the record. Through Thee Milkshakes, Thee Headcoats, The Buff Medways, Wild Billy Childish & CTMF and numerous other projects, the singer, guitarist, songwriter, poet and visual artist has spent decades pursuing a similarly stripped-down vision of garage rock, punk and rhythm & blues. His addition to Armitage Shanks therefore feels less like an outside collaboration than an extension of a shared musical lineage.

Charge of the Shite Brigade reconnects that history with the present, preserving the blunt, deliberately unfussy character that has defined Armitage Shanks while introducing Childish directly into the lineup. More than three decades after the band's formation, it is a return built around the same fundamentals: rough guitars, forceful rhythms, garage-rock economy and a refusal to polish away the imperfections that give the music its personality.
