Philip Hammond has written for the Ulster Orchestra, Lontano, the Brodsky String Quartet, James Galway and many well known soloists. Many of his works have strong literary associations. The piano works heard in this disc were written for three Irish pianists: Cathal Breslin, Michael McHale and David Quigley. Himself a pianist, Philip Hammond has a deep and thorough understanding of the instrument. The music is appealing and communicates from the very first hearing.
