Description
This updated and revised album demonstrates the wide breadth of the McTell repertoire with some of the best blues on record.
NEW RE-MASTER with IMPROVED SOUND and UPDATED ARTWORK. In keeping with our efforts to reduce the use of plastic, Document Records is replenishing its back-catalogue with card Digipacks. In doing so, productions are being updated with new artwork and improved re-masters.
DOCD-5677 Blind Willie McTell - The Early Years 3 CD album replaces the original three separate volumes of Blind Willie McTell's work in the Document catalogue; DOCD-5006, DOCD-5007 and DOCD-5008. It has additional tracks which first saw their re-issues scattered in Document's 'Too Late' series and now contains 74 tracks.
This updated and revised album demonstrates the wide breadth of the McTell repertoire with some of the best blues on record. It also contains the enthralling ragtime numbers 'Georgia Rag', 'Southern Can Is Mine' and 'Atlanta Strut'.
If Robert Johnson was the King of the Mississippi blues then the Royal Crown of the Georgia blues must go to Blind Willie McTell. In addition, he was also a King of the twelve string guitar. Blind Willie McTell played some of the deepest 'country blues', intricate 'ragtime' and some of the finest 'bottleneck slide guitar' to have been recorded.
Moreover McTell was equally at home playing religious pieces, similar to the guitar evangelists of the time including his good friend the great Blind Willie Johnson. Also joining him on some of the tracks are Ruby Glaze, his wife Kate, his close companion Curly Weaver and others.
Revered by many including, Taj Mahal, The Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan and Jack White, all of who have covered his songs but he has never been imitated.
Includes informative, illustrated booklet by David Evans plus detailed discography.
