The debut album of the drone / doom / ambient / jazz institution from Mühlheim / Ruhr - finally available again as a reissue in a digipack on EPISTROPHY. BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE have long been a phenomenon that spans scenes and genres and is popular all over the world. The quartet from Mühlheim an der Ruhr comes from the hardcore and metal scene and has played together in numerous previous formations since the late eighties. Since 1992 as BOHREN, active from 1993 with the addition of CLUB OF GORE, the band has developed from its musical roots to a uniquely dark slow-motion instrumental sound up to the debut album. MORTEN GASS (piano, Rhodes), ROBIN RODENBERG (bass), REINER HENSELEIT (guitar) and THORSTEN BENNING (drums) succeeded in translating the intensity, heaviness and gloom of metal / hardcore into an atmospherically threatening, deep black soundscape, who formulated an unmistakable musical signature between ambient, doom, lounge jazz and drones. Since the first two albums recorded by the original line-up on EPISTROPHY, the quartet has refined this language with each subsequent album, with the terms reduction, deceleration and minimalism taking on a completely new meaning. On 'Gore Motel' (1994), the band presented their vision of dark and slow soundscapes, accentuated by organ sounds and twang guitar, for the first time with twelve songs that sound like DAVID LYNCH and CHRIS ISAAK had a few shots of heroin have an appointment. Music like a feverish dream, the ideal soundtrack for dim red-light bars, night-time freeway drives or the third season of 'Twin Peaks'. Absolute reference work!
