Whether it's refined chamber music, clockwork-tight interaction or inflammable hardcore improvisation, Ceccaldi is a true free spirit, in touch with creative resources and an imagination that are at least as important as his considerable chops.
Among Valentin Ceccaldi's groups we can find such renowned formations as Kutu, Roberto Negro Papier Ciseau, Théo Ceccaldi Trio, Dominique Pifarély Septet, the Darrifourcq - Hermia - Ceccaldi trio, the duo with Leila Martial etc.
His new quartet Bonbon Flamme's first album, released on Clean Feed label, received rave reviews: 'The composition 'Bonbon Flamme', a sort of symphonic poem that names this album and the band, is an agglomeration of notes, words, and drawings skillfully built, allowing each one to spread out, like a flower in spring, within a piece of music in which each personality is essential to the other.
This record is a kind of a self-portrait, with four voices, pulverising references then recomposing them with bright colors and a commitment of body and spirit cherished by the four builders. Bonbon Flamme is a delight. A fluorescent, raging and burning delight.'
The second album, Calaveras Y Boom Boom Chupitos is a more song-orientated album full of twisted, noisy-romantic hits, composed with a generally more accessible approach.
