Description
A routine road trip takes an impossible turn in Boneless, an independent sci-fi horror adventure from writer-director Dario Bagatin. When a young couple picks up a mysterious hitchhiker and strays from their intended route, they find themselves transported into another reality. Instead of an easy way home, they discover a world caught in a violent intergalactic conflict between humans and alien forces, where survival means navigating a war they barely understand and ultimately choosing a side.
Bagatin's feature directorial debut embraces the handmade spirit of old-school science-fiction and monster movies, mixing alien invasion, horror and action with the anything-goes energy of drive-in B-movies. Francesco Roder, David White, Erica Alberti and Paolo Fagiolo star in a story that moves from an ordinary road-trip setup into increasingly strange extraterrestrial territory.
A particular emphasis is placed on practical filmmaking techniques, with creature effects and stop-motion animation giving Boneless a tactile throwback quality. Rather than disguising its genre influences, the film celebrates them, combining monsters, cosmic warfare and offbeat independent filmmaking in the tradition of low-budget creature features while adding a contemporary sensibility.
