MYRIAD OF LIGHTS: Hu Zhiqing and his family are barely scraping by when one day his mother, brother and sister-in-law arrive from the country. But Zhiqing is fired from his job, and the strains of all the extra mouths to feed threaten his marriage. ALONG THE SUNGARI RIVER: This film tells the story of a young woman Niu'er, whose parents are killed during the Japanese invasion in Manchuria. When a Japanese officer attempts to rape her, Niu'er escapes with her grandfather and a young driver to another town. The driver finds work as a miner, but the Japanese take over the mine and soon are cruelly oppressing the Chinese workers.
