Finnish Blackened Death / Blackend Crust for fans of Asphyx, Deathchain, 1914, and Entombed
Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, the country with the most metal bands per capita, creating world-class extreme metal is quite literally in their blood. Their strong lyrical themes of occultism, death and horror will delight and engross you, and their latest offering Beyond Death perfectly displays the vast sonic arsenal they have at their disposal. Formed in 2012, the band's sound can be described as heavily inspired by filthy old-school death and black metal from the 80s and 90s with an edgy, punk rock / crust attitude. As an already well-established name in the tenacious Helsinki underground scene, Church of the Dead are ready to break free from their subterranean dwellings and ascend to conquer Europe, and their second full-length album Beyond Death arms them with a very potent weapon in order to do just that. Invisible Oranges premiered the album's first single, Tombdweller, and had this to say: ' The album's raucous proceedings fit surprisingly well with a backdrop of dramatic synths and well-honed productionâthe latter shaving off just enough rough edges to give some of the heaviest moments awe-inspiring impact without hiding any of the tonal nastiness on display. This sense of evil divinity is grounded by the band's obvious distaste for too much theatrics over the meat'n'potatoes stuff ânote the 'Chainsaw Gutfuck' cover later on in the record, and how the band leaves a spot in the credits for 'synths and shit.' ' Decibel Magazine, who hosted a full stream of the album and had this to say:' Whatâs that? You needed a dose of crusty death metal to start your morning? Youâll get exactly that in the form of Beyond Death, the second album from Finnish quartet Church of the Dead. Coming two years and a covers EP after their debut album, Beyond Death scratches the itch for filthy, punk-influenced death metal.' For fans of Asphyx, Deathchain, 1914, Entombed
