Description

"All the Shadows" is the new stufio album of the legendary US metal band, Cirith Ungol!

Legendary American heavy metal band Cirith Ungol returns with All the Shadows, a powerful 2026 studio album that continues the remarkable legacy of one of underground metal's most distinctive and influential groups. Released by No Remorse Records, this Limited Digipak CD edition presents eight compositions steeped in the dark atmosphere, epic songwriting, ominous melodies and uncompromising musical intensity that have defined the band for more than five decades. From the opening title track 'All the Shadows' to the closing composition 'Venus in Thirds,' the album embraces Cirith Ungol's unmistakable combination of traditional heavy metal, doom-laden guitar riffs, progressive arrangements and apocalyptic imagery. The recording arrives following the band's announcement of farewell performances in 2024, marking an unexpected continuation of a career distinguished by artistic independence, a devoted international following and an extraordinary resurgence after decades away from the recording studio. According to the issuing label, All the Shadows stands among the band's strongest achievements, demonstrating an ability to create new material worthy of comparison with its established classics. Rooted in the group's singular interpretation of epic and doom-influenced heavy metal, the album reflects a determination to continue developing its musical identity without abandoning the dark, mysterious and unconventional qualities that have made Cirith Ungol a revered name among generations of dedicated metal listeners.

Formed in Ventura, California, during the early 1970s, Cirith Ungol emerged from heavy metal's formative period with a sound that stood apart from prevailing trends. Taking its name from a location in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, the band developed a musical and visual identity steeped in dark fantasy, mythology, apocalyptic themes and ominous atmosphere. Founding members Greg Lindstrom and Robert Garven helped establish the group's distinctive musical direction, while vocalist Tim Baker became one of its most recognizable figures through his raw, piercing and emotionally charged delivery. Influenced by the heaviness of Black Sabbath and the adventurous compositional approaches of progressive hard rock, Cirith Ungol developed a style characterized by powerful guitar riffs, unusual arrangements, dramatic contrasts and an unmistakable sense of foreboding. The band's debut album, Frost and Fire (1981), introduced its eccentric combination of hard rock, progressive influences and early heavy metal, establishing the foundation for the darker material that followed. Its second album, King of the Dead (1984), became a landmark of American epic heavy metal, combining massive riffs, elaborate compositions and sinister atmospheres with the group's increasingly recognizable fantasy aesthetic. One Foot in Hell (1986) continued that development, further establishing Cirith Ungol's reputation among underground metal audiences. Although mainstream commercial recognition remained elusive, these recordings gradually acquired cult-classic status, influencing subsequent generations of musicians and collectors drawn to the band's uncompromising originality and distinctive interpretation of heavy metal.

Following the release of its fourth studio album, Paradise Lost, in 1991, Cirith Ungol disbanded in 1992, bringing its initial recording career to an end. Over the following decades, however, the group's reputation continued to expand as collectors, musicians and dedicated heavy-metal enthusiasts rediscovered its catalog. Albums that had originally circulated primarily within underground circles became increasingly celebrated examples of traditional American heavy metal, epic metal and doom-influenced songwriting. In 2015, Cirith Ungol reunited, beginning an unexpected second chapter that brought its music to international audiences through eagerly anticipated live performances and renewed recording activity. The comeback eventually produced Forever Black (2020), the band's first full-length studio album in nearly three decades, followed by Dark Parade (2023), which further demonstrated its ability to produce compelling new material while remaining faithful to its established sound. These recordings introduced Cirith Ungol to younger generations of metal listeners and reinforced the band's standing as an influential cult institution. Although farewell performances were announced in 2024, the creative momentum continued, ultimately leading to All the Shadows. The album represents another remarkable development in a career characterized by persistence, artistic conviction and an enduring commitment to a musical vision that has remained recognizable despite decades of changes in the heavy-metal landscape. Its arrival underscores the continued vitality of a band whose original recordings helped establish the foundations of epic and doom-oriented American heavy metal.

On All the Shadows, Cirith Ungol presents eight compositions that explore the ominous atmosphere, dramatic arrangements and uncompromising musical character central to its enduring appeal. The opening title track establishes the album's dark thematic direction, followed by 'This Mortal Stain,' 'Turning Blind' and 'Shallow Reflection,' whose evocative titles reflect the group's longstanding fascination with mortality, uncertainty and the darker dimensions of human existence. The remaining selections, 'Empty Tomb,' 'On Broken Wings,' 'Hollow Nimbus' and 'Venus in Thirds,' complete a collection rooted in the band's tradition of epic imagery and distinctive heavy-metal songwriting. Issued by No Remorse Records in a Limited Digipak CD edition, this release offers collectors an alternative physical presentation of the album, featuring the complete eight-track program in digipak packaging. Its musical heritage places Cirith Ungol alongside influential artists such as Black Sabbath, Trouble and Manilla Road, while the group's unusual vocal delivery, fantasy-oriented atmosphere and characteristic compositional approach remain unmistakably its own. More than fifty years after its formation, Cirith Ungol continues to demonstrate the creative determination that transformed an obscure California band into an internationally respected name in traditional heavy metal. Combining powerful riffs, dark melodic passages, dramatic musical structures and a distinctive artistic identity forged across generations, All the Shadows stands as a testament to the band's enduring commitment to its singular vision. This Limited Digipak edition provides a collectible CD presentation of an important new chapter in the history of one of American heavy metal's most celebrated underground bands.
