Description
Petula Clark started her 7 decade career as a 10 year old during World War II. Her impressions of Carmen Miranda and Sophie Tucker were broadcast by the BBC to the British Empire and her rendition of Mighty Like A Rose in the same show grabbed the attention of servicemen abroad.
Petula went on to star in British films throughout the 1950s while at the same time achieving great success as a recording and broadcasting star in Britain. From here she continued her success in France, then America and finally the world in a glittering career encompassing all aspects of show business - pop music, Hollywood, stage and television.
Early on in her career Petula found working with Joe Henderson as her accompanist a happy experience and so a musical partnership was established. Petula's on-screen film and TV appearances, recordings and radio broadcasts nearly always included Joe either as accompanist or composer. Throughout the 1950s they toured the United Kingdom together and in 1959 presented their own radio series for the BBC entitled âPet and Mr. Pianoâ.
This carefully assembled collection of lovingly restored songs bring together two remarkable talents and features Petula's earliest known BBC broadcast from 1942, film songs from Petula's early career and other rare radio broadcasts; and Joe's first recordings plus two of his British chart entries, Sing It With Joe and Sing It Again With Joe - a sing-along medley of popular standards.
