These sessions feature some of the finest writing and arranging of the era, including Neal Hefti's celebrated charts for The Atomic Mr. Basie and Basie Plays Hefti, along with Quincy Jones' sophisticated compositions for Basie One More Time. Throughout these recordings, Basie and his orchestra perform contemporary material that demonstrated the band's continued artistic evolution while retaining the precision, swing, and effortless style that made the orchestra one of jazz's defining ensembles.
