Description
Liebman and Beirach share a musical partnership for almost 50 years. Their first pure ballads album features a mix of new and old compositions.
Dave Liebman and Richie Beirach, then both in their late 60s, share a musical partnership spanning almost 50 years. They first met during a jam session at Queens College in New York, bonding over their love for jazz greats. Initially experimenting with free jazz, they developed a unique vocabulary, collaborating on various projects. Their first recorded duet, 'Round Midnight,' emerged during a 1973 session in Japan while Liebman was on tour with Miles Davis. Over the years, they explored ballads in their musical dialogue, leading to the release of their first pure ballads album, 'Balladscapes.' The album features a mix of new and old compositions, along with unconventional arrangements of works by Bach, Weill, Jobim, Shorter, Strayhorn, and Coltrane. The album showcases their rich musical interplay, with Liebman praising Beirach's anchoring role and impeccable timing, emphasizing their nearly half-century-long musical connection.
