Slade's Don Powell returns with his Occasional Flames. 'Never Mind The Baubles' carries on where 'Merry Xmas Everybody' left off fifty years ago.

A founding member of the iconic English rock band Slade, Don Powell has a background in the business of making hit records. This year, he returns with Don Powell's Occasional Flames and Never Mind The Baubles, a rollicking, Christmas album stuffed with original material, that carries on where Merry Xmas Everybody left off fifty years ago.

Don Powell's Occasional Flames (Paul Cookson, Les Glover, Don Powell) were formed out of a church hall musical concert series organised by Cookson - Pies, Peas and Performances. It was here that he met Les Glover, long-time bandmate of Henry Priestman (The Christians, It's Immaterial).

The pair's mutual love of Slade meant that it wasn't long before an event with Don Powell was arranged at the church hall - which started as a wide-ranging interview, and ended as a jam of Slade songs. The trio enjoyed it so much that plans were made to continue making music together - in the studio, rather than the church hall.

These sessions forged many of the songs that became 'Never Mind The Baubles'. It feels fitting that Don has produced festive music once more, given the legacy his band forged with it. The single 'It Isn't Really Christmas Until Noddy Starts To Sing' addresses this - and how the Slade hit has become ingrained in the nation's musical consciousness during the festive period.
