Rubinstein's seminal score to Romero's vampire film 'Martin', as well as the unused score for Ed Harris' directorial debut, 'Pollock' on one CD.
Perseverance Records is proud to release not one but two wonderful scores by the respected composer, pianist and poet Donald Rubinstein. The first part of our double feature is the score to the 1977 George Romero cult classic, Martin. Martin starred Romero collaborator, John Amplas as the title character who believed he was a vampire. Considered by many to be one of Romero's more complex films, it was a departure from the director's previous horror films. In this movie he uses psychology, atmosphere, suspense and solid character development to show the title character's slow, disturbing descent into Martin was not a huge box office success but it did find new life (as well as a whole new audience) during the VHS boom of the late 1980s/early 1990s. Since then, Martin has been a solid catalog seller on all the video formats since.
The second part of our double header is Pollock. The movie stars Ed Harris and Marcia Gay Harden and was released in 2000. Directed by Harris, Pollock was based on Steven Naifeh's biography on painter Jackson Pollock. Donald Rubinstein was commissioned to write the score but was replaced by Jeff Beal whose score is heard in the film.
