Sonic Artifact is an electronic odyssey, a love song to the infinite cosmos wrapped inside a paean to deep space.
Whenever they could find time, the two beavered away on the track, first creating a soundbed with Moog, electric Tanpura, sequenced synthesizers, Tuvan throat singing and Igil. Melodica and field recordings from the forests were added to this song structure, and downtuned guitar was recorded through a massive tube amplifier and cabinet to create the drones at the end of the track. Finally Kimmo added traditional Finnish instrument the Kantele, and the track was done.
'Aside from being inspired by African music culture, dub reggae and the blues, I'm influenced by psychedelic rock and the musical subgenres of stoner rock and doom that Black Sabbath gave birth to, all known for their long continuous songs. For years I had the idea to start building an electronic song of one hour, but in the end it came to 35 minutes as not only did that length feel right, but it's also the amount of bass music that a 12' can uphold.'
