Description

The Elders don't just write songs, they tell stories

Based in Kansas City, Missouri, The Elders formed 17 years ago and have since become one of America's most respected and acclaimed Celtic rock bands.

On 'Story Road' the band explores history, tall tales, and characters they encountered during their years of travel. Stories of places, events, death, love & heartache are spun throughout the lyrics, and fueled by new explorations in musical sound and style. Seamlessly merging pop, rock & traditional textures, the album features strong vocal harmonies & lively instrumentals that fans have come to expect. Fiddler Colin Farrell brings much of the instrumental heat to this collection, contributing three original tunes in the traditional Irish style.

Their first single, 'Meetings of the Waters,' is about a young man's coming of age, with the title paying homage to Thomas Moore (1779-1852) an Irish poet, singer, songwriter, and entertainer, now best remembered for the lyrics of 'The Minstrel Boy' and 'The Last Rose of Summer'. The legendary 'Meetings of the Waters'' is the location in County Wicklow, where Moore pinned some of his most famous works ... and happens to be where The Elders singer Ian Byrne spent much of his youth.
Another notable song is 'Even the Great Ones Fall,' a tribute to the late Levon Helm of 'The Band.' Performed live in Kansas City, in 2014.

'The Miners' is a mournful song about a 1917 mining accident in Butte, Montana that claimed the lives of 168 men.
