Novelties finds Emil de Waal Old News continuing the musical journey they began alongside the late clarinetist Elith 'Nulle' Nykjær Jørgensen. Having previously reinterpreted Danish and American classics by composers including Sidney Bechet, Fats Waller, Bessie Smith, John Mogensen, Hans Henrik Ley, Kenneth Knudsen, Aske Bentzon, and Sven Gyldmark, the ensemble now honors Nulle's legacy through an entirely new collection of original compositions that blend tradition with contemporary creativity.

The group features some of Denmark's finest jazz musicians, including Emil de Waal on drums, Jacob Anderskov on keyboards, Randi Laubek on vocals, Gustaf Ljunggren on guitars and reeds, and Henriette Groth on clarinet. Together they create music rooted in jazz history while embracing openness, experimentation, and modern expression.

Pressed on black vinyl, Novelties presents ten original compositions that celebrate the band's unique chemistry and continue its thoughtful exploration of melody, improvisation, and innovation within contemporary Danish jazz.
