Description
Round Wheeler surveys Kenny Wheeler's long-form art, where orchestral colour, memory and improvisatory breath are shaped into structure.
The musical and recording career of the pianist Victoria Terekiev has been distinguished over the years by a strong coherence in the research and discovery of the musical poetics of Eastern Europe. Already in the first publication Da Vinci Classics [Pancho Vladigerov, Miniatures, 2018, C00134], Terekiev has shown that he is a singer at the piano of a world that for often extra-musical reasons is still unable to be fully appreciated by the vast audience of enthusiasts and musicians. . The choice therefore to continue his own path dedicating himself to a composer like Aram Khachaturian (1903-1978), in a first project that is a prelude to the author's complete piano, is therefore particularly significant and stands as one of the most important titles of his career as an interpreter and it is no coincidence that the title chosen is 'An Armenian in Moscow'. Khachaturian, of Armenian origins, was in fact for many years at the forefront of the musical organization of the former Soviet Union, as well as a prolific author of concerts, ballets and symphonic music. Veined by an often sunny mood and a certain optimism, his musical poetics only on the facade can be considered as adhering to the dictates of the time and despite a vast production in almost every genre, he left a limited number of music dedicated to the piano. However, it can easily be placed among the happiest and most successful written during the twentieth century, studded with real gems such as the Toccata (1932), the Sonatina (1958) or the wonderful Masquerade Suite (1941-44), all works included in the present album. Alongside these masterpieces, however, Victoria Terekiev places other works by the author, no less significant, which demonstrate great ability to move both in the most minute and apparently simple forms, such as the Children's Album (1926 - 1947), as well as inside of more impressive and narrative structures such as the Poem (1927), probably one of the most successful and fascinating pieces ever composed by Khachaturian and which thanks to this interpretation becomes pure music, well beyond the instrument, the period or the place of conception. Just like an Aedo of today, in this revealing project Victoria Terekiev gives voice to an author still too little listened to and to a world that appears only erroneously distant and that observing without prejudice knows how to speak directly to the heart, narrating its own story and becoming viaticum for that of man.
