Morgera carves out a space of his own in the panorama of Italian trumpet players, choosing the path of sober phrasing and melodic clarity, and favoring a “dark,” almost flugelhorn-like timbre, in which a dusky play of chiaroscuro is evident, a far cry from the glitter of so many trumpets. Even on the level of stylistic references the main influences are not Miles Davis or Freddie Hubbard but, rather, Lee Morgan, Woody Shaw and even Thad Jones.
