Description
Ten originals and one Mighty Sam Mc Clain cover combine beautifully with Bey's vocals.
Ten originals and one Mighty Sam McClain cover combine beautifully with Bey's vocals, described in Downbeat Magazine as 'one of the small wonders of modern soul-blues...' Featuring Hambridge on drums, as well as Buddy Guy session musicians Rob McNelly (guitar), Marty Sammon (keyboards) and Tommy MacDonald (bass on six tracks), this release is sure to join Guy's 'The Blues is Alive and Well' and Hambridge's 'The NOLA Sessions' among the leading releases of 2018.
Born and raised in Millen, Georgia, Frank Bey began his singing career performing gospel at the tender age of 4. At age 17 he joined the Otis Redding Revue working as the opening act for several years. In the early 1970s, he formed a tight-knit radical funk group - Moorish Vanguard. But in a record deal gone wrong with James Brown, it all fell apart. Abandoned by his closest friends, Frank quit singing for 17 years. Ultimately, he returned to music, and despite a sudden battle with kidney failure, connected with an internationally-touring blues band. On stage, whether for hundreds at international music festivals or dozens at a local church, Frank Bey is radiant, powerful, and generous. Frank has received multiple BMA nominations, both for recordings and also for 'Soul Blues Artist of the Year.'
