Description
By the mid 1950's Georgia Gibbs was a well established artist with many best selling records to her credit. Although her biggest hits were cover versions of songs originally recorded by black singers her talent extended beyond that genre as demonstrated by the variety of musical
settings on this new compilation.
The collection sets off in grand style with a rare recording from 1940 with Georgia singing a typical example of Cole Porter's wit and innuendo 'The Laziest Gal In Town'. Her first
major record label contract was with Coral Records where she was often teamed with Bob Crosby as heard on the bright 'Cherry Stones' and 'Dream A Little Dream Of Me'. Her versatile vocal style was used to full advantage and she recorded pop ballads, Latin numbers, novelty items, rock and roll and big band music.
She was involved with some of the then up and coming talents on the recording scene, writers Leiber and Stoller who contribute 'Love Me' and 'Blueberries' on this 30 track album while her studio sessions were supervised by Hugo and Luigi.
The final title on this CD is a fine example of a talented vocalist at work. It is 'I'll Be Seeing You' with its lush string accompaniment backing the sultry, tender voice of Georgia Gibbs, Girl Singer.
