The research of pianist, musicologist, and theologian Chiara Bertoglio has unearthed numerous works relating to the reception of Bach’s music in Italy. The fifth volume of her “Bach&Italy” recording project for Da Vinci Classics is the first of two albums dedicated to Bach’s string solos in Italian transcriptions. This CD includes true gems, such as Sergio Fiorentino’s splendid transcription after Bach’s first Sonata for unaccompanied violin, and interesting discoveries, such as Alfonso Rendano’s melodies superimposed onto two Preludes from Bach’s Cello Suites. The album is completed by works by other composers from the early twentieth century to present-day, including Alessandro Longo, Giuseppe Piccioli, Eugenio Fels.
