Description

Versatile, stylish NY drummer Eisenstadt’s second release of creative chamber jazz by his Golden State quartet, this immaculately recorded (24/88.2) Vancouver Jazz Festival concert features engrossing 4-way interplay on an engaging set of original compositions. This time Amsterdam-based American clarinetist Michael Moore (ICP Orchestra) replaces flutist Nicole Mitchell; his elegant but gutsy playing has a jazzier, bluesy quality even when playing free. Singular bassist Mark Dresser and improvising bassoon pioneer Sara Schoenbeck return with their typically erudite and soulful approaches to improvisation and to interpreting written material. Harris (#3 rising star for percussion in the 2014 DownBeat critcs poll) oversees things from the drum-kit with controlled outbursts, subtle polyrhythms, and an endless stream of gorgeous textures and colors.
