With a new release, the Helsinki Chamber Choir, conducted by Nils Schweckendiek, presents the vocal music of two of the most notable Finnish modernist composers of the 1970s.Sampo Haapamäki (b. 1979) has become known for his innovations in microtonal music. His music is marked by an interest in rigorous and clearly perceivable processes - carefully constructed ups and downs, accelerations and decelerations, thickening and thinning of texture. Antti Auvinen (b. 1974) composes music, which challenges us to consider the boundary between musical sounds and noise, as he uses noise as an essential part of his musical expression. In particular, he uses the so-called. extended playing modes, or in the case of vocal music, unusual modes of expression such as growls, shouts, screams, and other sounds. Rhythm is an important component of his music: speed, stagnation, regularity, faceted irregularity, and the myriad combinations of these are part of his remarkably energetic and bodily melodic language.
