Born from lockdown duo sessions with his son Sébastien, Henri Texier's trio album strips jazz to its bones: standards, old themes, new songs.

When the COVID-19 lockdowns confined Henri Texier and his son Sébastien Texier, who live in the same village, the two men began bending the rules to meet and play, purely for the sake of not letting the music stop. Free of any project or expectation, the duo found themselves drifting toward material they had never dared touch before, including old standards such as 'Round Midnight and Besame Mucho, and gradually the sessions turned from a private diversion into real work: sorting through weeks of accumulated material, they settled on the trio as the ideal, most exposed format, and brought in drummer Gautier Garrigue, a member of Texier's quintet since 2016, whose precise, resourceful playing could hold the fragile balance of the group. Alongside the standards, the trio revived deep cuts from Texier's own catalogue, including 'Fertile Danse' (from 1998's Mosaic Man) and 'Izlaz' (originally a Transatlantic Quartet recording), and each member contributed one new composition: 'Take Your Time' by Sébastien Texier, 'Forest Forgive Them' by Gautier Garrigue and 'Bacri's Mood' by Henri Texier. Recorded live, without an audience, on the stage of Le Triton, the album is guided by what Texier calls his two guiding values in this project, precision and simplicity: no added ornament, no arabesques, just the melody and its poetry, respected as the surest way to reach real emotion. Sébastien Texier, playing alto saxophone alone for the first time on record, carries the melodic line throughout with newfound authority, placing him among Europe's leading saxophonists.
