Howardian is a punk rock art rock group fronted by Ian Vanek (ex-Japanther) established in 1994. Other members include: Justin McKaughan, Gardner Allen and Troy Marrero and Mustafa Daka. Along with several EP's,'Are You A Frienda Brenda?' is Howardians 7th album. Ian's penchant for being prolific is only overshadowed by the quality of songwriting. Howardian uses analog drum machines, an array of synth melodies and family sized bass lines to cook an authentic soulful sound. Thoughtful lyrics are delivered in a unique manner while surfy drums pound under warm walls of sound. It can at times be thick with technical polyrhythms. It may have sticky piano driven melodies and sly lyrics. The songs may also fall into the category of straightforward punk rock rippers in a standard, true to form structure. Howardian's tracks feature fuzzy, distorted walls of sound and plenty of samples, all with a scuzzy garage-rock vibe. This band and this record transcend the lines of rock and roll with genre bending style, wall the while preserving the thing that connects each listener to the band. Punk Rock.
