Hypnotised Presents Balearic Trance launches a sister series to the acclaimed Hypnotised project, shifting its focus from country-by-country surveys to detailed explorations of trance music's defining subgenres. Conceived by Arjan Rietveld, author of Hypnotised: A Journey Through Trance Music, this three-CD collection maps the evolution of Balearic trance through 27 selections drawn from the genre's most enduring anthems and deeper crate-digger favorites.
The collection connects landmark recordings including Three Drives On A Vinyl's immortal "Greece 2000," York's "Reachers of Civilization" in its Rank 1 remix, Solarstone's "The Calling," Nalin & Kane's "Beachball," Chicane's "Already There," Energy 52's "Café Del Mar," Rank 1's "Airwave," and Armin van Buuren and Justine Suissa's "Burned With Desire." Contributions from Ferry Corsten's Moonman project, Tiësto, Svenson, Gabriel & Dresden, Filterheadz, Andain, Whirlpool, Envio, Hemstock & Jennings, Leama, Planisphere, Estuera, Lightscape, The Auranaut, Veit, Albion, Jaimy & Kenny D., and Conil broaden the set's journey from sunlit club anthems to atmospheric sunset and chill-out interpretations.
Balearic trance emerged at the intersection of late-1990s club culture and Mediterranean holiday life, when the Balearic Islands became a meeting point for international DJs, travelers, and a rapidly expanding trance audience. Hypnotised Presents Balearic Trance documents that setting through records built around open-air melodies, coastal atmosphere, emotional builds, and the sense of escape associated with Ibiza and the surrounding islands. Alongside established classics, the program preserves less frequently anthologized selections such as Dove Beat's Transformer Too-riffing "La Paloma" in the remastered Ocean Mix, Goldenscan's chiming "Sunrise" in the Pulser 6AM Remix, and Mr. Sam and Tim Coltrane present The Tribute's holiday-yearning "One More Day."
Running approximately 204 minutes across three discs, the set includes extended, ambient, unplugged, sunset, chill-out, and remastered mixes selected to illustrate the full range of the Balearic trance sound. Highlights include DJ Tiësto's Summerbreeze Mix of "Caught Me Running," Gabriel & Dresden's Unplugged Mix of "Beautiful Things," Solarstone's remix of "Under The Sun," Michael Woods' remix of "Café Del Mar," the Sunset Mix of "Airwave," Rusch & Elusive's Chill Out Mix of "Touched By The Sun," and ambient versions of "Melodica," "Moonshine," and "The Calling."
