Description
Jim Reid is without a doubt an outstanding singer and songwriter, and as a lover of the work of poet Violet Jacob, has set many of her poems to music, including the hugely successful Wild Geese (or Norland Wind), which has now become one of the classic folk songs of the twentieth century.
Jim was a founder member of the legendary Foundry Bar Band, after an apprenticeship in various Scottish groups including The Taysiders. His interest in the travelling folk is well known and he had a very special relationship with the late Belle and Alex Stewart of Blairgowrie.
In the introduction to Jim's recently published book The Better O' A Sang, Billy Kaye wrote 'Mary Brooksbank is richt, we're aw better o' a song, especially gin it's sung by a maister like Jim Reid'.
Some of Scotland's finest musicians session with Jim on this album - Aaron Jones (cittern), Sandy Brechin (accordion), Marc Duff (whistle, recorder), Malcolm Stitt (bouzouki), Frank McLaughlin (guitar) and Ian Anderson (vocals).
Booklet contains notes and song lyrics.
'Jim Reid is regarded as one of Scotland's finest singers, his voice sensitive, intensely humane and, at its best, with a unique and lovely resonance.' (The Scotsman)
