Joe Gittleman returns with Fiddlemen, featuring members of The Bosstones, Dropkick Murphys, Bouncing Souls and more.

Joe Gittleman returns to Rad Girlfriend Records with 'Fiddlemen', a studio project connecting several chapters of the Boston punk and ska community. The record features longtime Bosstones bandmate Nate Albert on guitar, Tim Brennan of The Dropkick Murphys on guitar, and Michael McDermott on drums. McDermott brings his history with the Bouncing Souls and Joan Jett, as well as his recent work alongside Gittleman in The Kilograms. The personnel connect decades of Boston punk, ska and independent music, while the music remains centered on Gittleman's songwriting. Gittleman is best known as a founding member, longtime bassist and songwriter of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, but his resume includes Avoid One Thing, The Kilograms along with his solo work, production and A&R credits.The project began with 'La Pièce de Résistance,' a song written as a score for 'The Photographer', a 1966 short film shot by Gittleman's father, photographer Len Gittleman, with filmmaker Robert Gardner in the Bay of Fundy. Gittleman encountered the film decades later after his father posted it online, and the project grew from there. He wrote roughly 20 verses drawing on different moments from his creative life, ultimately focusing on the early days of the Bosstones and the emergence of The Kilograms.That history is central to Fiddlemen, but so is the idea of creative work as a lifelong process. Gittleman has described the record as examining different parts of the creative process, from making the work to figuring out how people will hear it. For Rad Girlfriend, it continues a connection to Gittleman through The Kilograms and adds another record to a career rooted in Boston punk.
