Description

JOE KRAEMER made his self-titled debut album as a singer-songwriter, about a year after the release of his landmark score for THE WAY OF THE GUN.

JOE KRAEMER made his self-titled debut album as a singer-songwriter in 2001, about a year after the release of his landmark score for THE WAY OF THE GUN. While continuing to pursue commissions for film scores, he performed in clubs and coffee houses around the Los Angeles area, as well as at film festivals in the United States, such as the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Strongly influenced by The Beatles, and Paul McCartney in particular, as well as Randy Newman, Paul Simon, James Taylor, and Brian Wilson, Joe Kraemer focused his debut album on the songs he was performing live in solo acoustic sets, switching between guitar and piano from track to track. Production on the record was kept to a minimum, as the album was intended to reflect what audiences would hear when they attended one of his live shows.

Joe was joined by several collaborators who he met while attending Berklee College of Music in the early 1990s. Drummer Mike Rexford played on several tracks, as he often sat in on percussion when Joe performed in person. Fellow film composing student Michael Wong co-wrote the lyrics for WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO and Josh Arakalian, who would later join Joe as sound designer on several DOCTOR WHO audio dramas for BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS, wrote the melody for AFTERNOON FALLS INTO NIGHT. Finally, singer Valerie Peterson co-wrote HEY BARTENDER with Joe in 1996, and included the song on her debut album SONGS FOR MISS LUCKY, which Joe had produced.

Now, nearly 25 years after its original release, this album is being rereleased by BSX Records for new listeners to discover.
