Jukka Haavisto, internationally recognised as one of the leading names in Finnish jazz fusion and fretless electric bass, will release Juniper Path, the new album by his Löyly Syndicate, on 16 October 2026. The album builds a bridge between Finno-Ugric melodic traditions, Nordic jazz and African American jazz fusion. True to its title, Juniper Path takes the listener into the landscapes of the North, with the juniper serving as a symbol of roots, continuity and the Finnish state of mind. The album's other central element is löyly -- the steam and heat of a Finnish sauna, and a moment in which energy, tranquillity and presence alternate. Juniper Path is an album by Jukka Haavisto - Löyly Syndicate in which storytelling, improvisation and strong melodic themes form a cohesive whole. The album's world grows from two distinctly Finnish elements: juniper and löyly. The juniper also appears on the album cover in a deeply personal way: the original painting used for the artwork was created by Haavisto's mother. Imagery drawn from nature, memories and fleeting moments continues throughout the music, where intense rhythms, northern melodies and the energy of jazz fusion alternate with spacious, cinematic textures. Haavisto's compositional language seeks a balance between roots and forward-looking expression. At its foundation is his connection to central influences in the Finno-Ugric melodic tradition and the musical worlds of Toivo Kärki and Gösta Sundqvist. Alongside these influences stands the African American jazz fusion tradition represented by the music of Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter and Jaco Pastorius. Juniper Path feels intimate and expansive at the same time -- a kind of 'Nordic fusion ritual', in which the music carries the listener, moment by moment, through a distinctly northern world of its own.
