Phoenix, Arizona heavy metal band Jupiter Cyclops returns with 'One Eye Opens', the follow-up to its 2024 debut album called 'Age of the UFOnaut'. The new record expands the band's blend of classic hard rock, traditional heavy metal and NWOBHM with proto-thrash elements, slower melodic passages and more atmospheric arrangements. Formed in 2019 by vocalist Aaron Peltz, Jupiter Cyclops began as a heavy, sludgy doom project before guitarist Dustin Lyon helped steer the sound toward faster, more melodic metal and hard rock. Bassist Jake Melius and drummer Sam Callender later completed the current line-up. 'One Eye Opens' is heavier, more cohesive and more varied than its predecessor. Several songs were developed and performed live during the previous album cycle while older ideas such as 'Who Are They Foolin'' and 'The Initiates' were reworked for the new release. Conceived as a complete start-to-finish listening experience, the album follows a concise eight-song structure inspired by classic four-tracks-per-side records. Lyrically, the album moves between social observation and personal themes, addressing manipulation, fear, loss of humanity, grief, internal conflict, self-determination and spiritual awareness. Highlights include the early-thrash energy of 'Who Are They Foolin'', the darker 1980s feel of 'Snakes', the emotional power ballad 'The Way It Was', the UFO-inspired 'High Level Devil', the Thin Lizzy-influenced 'Heavy Phase' and the seven-minute atmospheric epic 'The Initiates'. Recorded at The Ripper's House, 'One Eye Opens' was produced by Jupiter Cyclops and mixed by Dustin Lyon with cover artwork by Mashai Fattahi. With melodic vocals, strong riffs, a focused running time and a clear classic-metal identity, the album is positioned for fans of heavy metal, hard rock and NWOBHM and for specialist retail and distribution catalogues.
