Four by pre-eminent contemporary composers performed by the Jupiter String Quartet and pianist Bernadette Harvey

One of the most highly regarded American composers of his generation, Pierre Jalbert has been awarded the Rome Prize, the BBC Masterpiece Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Stoeger Award, given 'in recognition of significant contributions to the chamber music repertory.' He is represent on this recording by two compositions ''Piano Quintet (2017)'' and ''Secret Alchemy for Violin, Viola, Cello, and Piano''. Steven Stucky (1949-2016) achieved renown as conductor, writer and teacher. He served as the consulting composer with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 21 years. Winner of a Pulitzer Prize and Guggenheim Fellowship, Stucky inspired served as permanent composer-in-residence at the Aspen Festival. The eminent Australian composer Carl Vine (b. 1954) has created an extensive range of works recorded on more than 60 CDs¬--eight symphonies, 12 concertos, and a body of piano music often performed worldwide.

The Jupiter String Quartet is a particularly intimate group, consisting of violinists Nelson Lee and Meg Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel (Meg's older sister), and cellist Daniel McDonough (Meg's husband, Liz's brother-in-law). This tight-knit ensemble is firmly established as an important voice in the world of chamber music. Bernadette Harvey is an acclaimed soloist and chamber musician and is currently senior lecturer in piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In 2000, she was awarded a Centenary Medal for her contributions to Australian Music.
