Description
This 3CD, 75 track set celebrates the centenary of the multi-talented Kay Thompson - singer, writer, choreographer, composer, comedienne and actress - whose most famous role was the flamboyant fashion magazine editor in the musical Funny Face co-starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.
Liza Minnelli, Kay Thompson's god-daughter, recently recreated the 'Kay Thompson and the (Andy) Williams Brothers' nightclub act for her Liza's At The Palace concert on Broadway, which won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event. An original cast CD of the show, including all the Kay Thompson numbers, was issued in February 2009 produced by Phil Ramone. In September 2009, Liza will perform the show at the M-G-M Grand in Las Vegas where it will be filmed for a television special and DVD release. Kay was an unusual talent who also served as vocal coach to the stars including Judy Garland and Lena Horne. She discovered the young Andy Williams and his brothers and had them accompany her on her cabaret performances. Kay Thompson is also the author of Eloise, the classic children's book about the little girl who lives at the Plaza Hotel in New York.
