The Kingston Trio was not just a folk group - it was a phenomenon. Witty, clean-cut and charismatic, the trio captured the public's imagination in the fall of 1958 with their chart-topping Tom Dooley, and continued with a series of million-selling Capitol albums. They played timeless acoustic music that was simple, appealing and surprisingly diverse. Their repertoire embraced folk songs, calypso and gospel numbers, world music, Broadway show tunes, old-time music and contemporary country songs--even modern R&B. Although the trio inspired hundreds of popular folk groups, none could ever duplicate their distinctive sound.

This 10-CD collection assembles all of the original Kingston Trio's Capitol recordings. It includes such classic hits as Tom Dooley, M. T. A. , Raspberries, Strawberries, The Tijuana Jail, A Worried Man and
Scotch And Soda, along with many previously unheard demos and alternative versions. It also includes their 1959 Newport Folk Festival concert, their 7-Up commercials, an essay on the history of the song Tom Dooley as well as the first recording by Grayson & Whitter. The accompanying 108-page hardcover book contains rare photos from the Kingston Trio's personal collection, along with a history of the original group by Bill Bush and song by-song-notes by Ben Blake and a complete discography.
