In February 2017 Kira Skov suffered the ultimate loss when Nicolai Munch-Hansen, her husband, father to her child and closest musical companion of many years tragically and unexpectedly lost his life. As a creative outlet and method to work through her grief, Kira soon began to write songs, about life, sudden death and the shock that follows in such circumstances.
The carefully selected musicians on this album help bring forth a musical universe with sparse instrumentation: electric and acoustic guitars, violin, cello, double bass and percussion. The songs belong to a tradition that references Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Townes Van Zandt.
Kira recorded the new album at Portishead's studio in Bristol, along with her longstanding collaborator, producer and drummer John Parish (known for his work with PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse, Tracy Chapman and others) and with American alt-country star Bonnie Prince Billy lending his voice to some songs.
