In the Ligurian pre-Alps, a very rich and original musical tradition has been carried on in the village of Ceriana. Its most significant form is a three-voice polyphony where the two higher voices are soloists, and the lower one is a drone performed by a large number of singers. This form of polyphony is suited for both the liturgical repertoire and secular songs.
