2nd vol. of young UK composers
British Women Composers Vol II offers the works of five important composers living and working in Britain. Odaline de la Martinez's Canciones and Eleanor Alberga's Suite from Dancing with the Shadow show the rhythm and dance-like quality of their Caribbean background. Judith Weir's Airs from Another Planet was inspired by the idea of establishing a human colony in Mars by Scottish colonisers. Ancient forms of Scottish music are lost in translation. Melinda Maxwell's Pibroch uses the 15th century tradition of Scottish ornamentation as handed down by ear through the various generations. Hilary Tann, born in Wales and now residing in the States writes music that reminds us of the snow-covered Welsh mountains, the rhythmic pulse of patterned rain and the special light that illuminates the Welsh countryside after rainfall. Marina Tafur is soloist in Martinez's Canciones. Lontano ensemble is conducted by Odaline de la Martinez
