Description
Limited edition 180 gram vinyl - audiophile pressing for super fidelity.
Alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson was born in Badin, North Carolina, on November 1, 1926 (he is 87 at this writing). Best known for his soulful, bluesy approach to playing the alto saxophone, in his formative years he was, as many were of the bebop era, heavily influenced by Charlie Parker. This release presents Lou Donaldson's complete original LP Midnight Sun, which was recorded in a quintet format and presents Donaldson as the only horn in the company of pianist Horace Parlan, bassist Ben Tucker, drummer Al Harewood, and star conga player Ray Barretto. As a bonus, we have added an alternative version of 'Candy' recorded the following year.
