Morandi’s Complete Organ Works Vol. 8 reveals an Italian organ style where liturgy, theatre and renewed colour meet within ritual form.

This album, with fifteen vocal and instrumental pieces by Charles Calomiris, is all about “God’s blessings”, “especially the puzzling ones”, as the composer writes. It begins with the setting of a poem about the universal aspiration for transcendence/ the second track explores the Greek pagan spirit, while Styx and Stones is inspired by the Greek underworld and its rivers and lagoons. Sotiria remembers a singer by that name, while The Magic of Bourtzi bridges the gap between the world of the living and that of the dead. King of Heart is about the unique relationship between God and Man introduced by Judaism, whilst the last nine pieces present various perspectives on that relationship. Together, these 15 pieces celebrate the epic journey of humankind’s yearning to connect with God. They reflect the understanding that God gives to our lives, and exemplify the unique role music can play to connect us with spiritual reality.
