The album release coincided with Svend Asmussen celebrating his 100th birthday, and passing away shortly before he reached 101. Asmussen, often referred to as 'The Fiddling Viking,' had a career spanning over eight decades and left an indelible mark on jazz with his inventive techniques, vibrant personality, and deep connection to the swing era. Tolling, a two-time Grammy-winning violinist, pays homage to Asmussen through this album, drawing inspiration from his mentor's extensive repertoire and musical philosophy.

The album centers around a selection of songs from the American Songbook, including classics like 'After You've Gone' and 'I Got Rhythm.' The release also features several Asmussen originals, including 'Nadja,' 'Take Off Blues' and 'Scandinavian Shuffle,' a tune he wrote for the popular group Swe-Danes, which Asmussen toured extensively with in the early 1960s. These songs, staples of Asmussen's performances, are reinterpreted by Tolling with a fresh, contemporary flair, while still maintaining the essence of the original compositions.
