Description
One of his most important recordings ever is "Moods", originally released as a double vinyl in 1979.
Pianist and composer Mal Waldron (1926-2002) was admired for his angular, Monk-influenced playing. One of his most important recordings ever is 'Moods', originally released as a double vinyl in 1979. In the seventies Waldron's improvisations were stretching out and getting more adventurous as he absorbed the lessons of free playing. His association with 'Professor Soprano' Steve Lacy was of particular importance for both musicians. Japanese trumpet virtuoso Terumasa Hino adds a world of lyrical and dramatical highlights to this music, while trombone player Hermann Breuer breathes a lot of warmth into the band's sound. The three-horn band is considered a 'wonderful sextet' (All Music Guide) and 'one of the most interesting bands of the time' (HiFi Stereophonie). For the ENJA Master Series another piano solo piece is added as a bonus: 'Soul Eyes', Waldron's biggest hit ever.
