In 1949, Stan Kenton formed his most ambitious band, the 43-piece Innovations in Modern Music Orchestra, which included strings and an expanded woodwind and brass section. The selections included in this album are from Kenton's recordings of this ensemble from 1950-51, which many consider Kenton's most creative period and his best orchestra.
