Release Date: 09/08/14

With the release of his long-awaited debut album 'The Unknown', saxophonist Mark DeJong has demonstrated that something this good is definitely worth the wait. Although no stranger to the recording studio nor the concert stage, DeJong has gathered The Outer Bridge Ensemble; some of the finest musicians playing into a tight framework of collective musicianship, interaction and improvisation. Their live performances bring an exciting brand of communication and nuance that is only possible after years of playing together. Each member of the ensemble contributes original material to the book, so their concerts truly reflect their dynamic eclecticism. Mark DeJong is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and band leader, and is also a founding member of the Outer Bridge Ensemble. He has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan and has shared the stage with such luminaries as Ray Charles, Rob McConnell, Lenny Pickett, Hugh Fraser, Kenny Wheeler and Sean Jones. He has participated in the renowned Banff Jazz Orchestra Workshop, and is active as a clinician and educator across Canada. 'The Unknown' made its debut at number 1 on the jazz charts in Alberta, and has received stellar reviews right across Canada. Recorded at Peter Karl Studios in Brooklyn, NY, the album features six of DeJong's original compositions as well as two well-known standards. The tunes demonstrate a compelling mix of funky bass lines with odd-meter arranging, infectious grooves and hard-hitting yet cohesive solos. The album was nominated for the 2009 Western Canadian Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Recording of the Year. The Outer Bridge Ensemble was formed by pianist and composer Steve Hudson in New Jersey in 2002. Originally intended as a showcase for Hudson’s compositions, the band soon expanded the scope of their performances to include compositions and arrangements from each of the band members. The Outer Bridge Ensemble has released two independant albums, and were featured performers at jazz festivals across North America, and have performed in numerous venues in New York City and New Jersey.

TRACK LISTING:

1: Paris of the Prairies - 7:01
2: People Will Say We're In Love - 4:59
3: Men in Black - 5:30
4: Darkest Hour - 7:41
5: Appendix_A - 4:37
6: Family Day - 7:03
7: Smile - 4:51
8: The Unknown - 6:00
