Description
Kapedani is a chain reaction of musical ideas, each linked to the next. His pianism is percussive without being aimless, with a strong sound.
In the liner notes of this CD we read that the presence of Balkan music in the great jazz mainstream is a rarity. Very true: and therefore the discovery of the pianist Markelian Kapedani is all the more precious, as I was lucky enough to admire him in a live performance, appreciating the originality of his language in addition to his formal preparation. Jazz has already been in those parts: remember Blue Rondò A La Turk by Dave Brubeck and the fabulous Turkish Mambo by Lennie Tristano but with Kapedani we witness the most interesting reverse process: it is the Balkan cultures that assimilate jazz to become other from what I am. Listen to believe! If you were fascinated by Koln Concert first and by Bollani, Allievi and Einaudi then... this is your album...)
