Marin Marais (1656-1728) composed almost six hundred songs for the viola da gamba in five books. They are grouped into series, parts of which the performer can make his own choice. Marais accurately marked the vibrato, jewelery patterns, trillions and even glissandos of varying degrees on the notes. Markku Luolajan-Mikkola's interpretations are rooted and rich in their sensitivity. The impression is complemented by a succulent recording and the fact that the excellent continuo group includes another gamba alongside the alternating lute and harpsichord.Jukka Isopuro
