Description
Empire of Liberty is the fourth full-length release from MEINSCHAFT, the experimental industrial project led by Evan Lipson and Evmh, emerging from the creative underground of Southern Appalachia. Expansive in scope and deliberately unorthodox in execution, the album represents a multi-year process of composition and sonic exploration, recorded between 2019 and 2025 and shaped into a dense, immersive statement on sound, structure, and cultural reflection.
Rooted in industrial textures but extending far beyond genre conventions, the album blends abrasive electronics, improvisational elements, and avant-garde composition into a shifting, often disorienting sonic landscape. Tracks move fluidly between harsh noise, rhythmic propulsion, and moments of eerie stillness, creating a listening experience that feels both confrontational and deeply layered. Pieces like 'Lux Æterna' unfold in multipart form, while titles such as 'Event Horizon' and 'Pneumatic Waltz' hint at the project's wide conceptual and tonal range.
The collaborative nature of the record is central to its identity, featuring contributions from a diverse group of experimental musicians including FKA ICE, Greg Kelley, Jonathan Moritz, Ben Bennett, Jack Wright, Mike Pride, and Brandon Seabrook. These contributors add texture and unpredictability, reinforcing the album's sense of organized chaos and exploratory intent. The project's creators bring equally distinctive backgrounds--Lipson with roots in boundary-pushing ensembles like Normal Love and Satanized, and Evmh through the synesthetic Evcast series, which fused global music with sensory experiences like scent and atmosphere.
Mastered by Alex Nagle and produced entirely by MEINSCHAFT in East Tennessee, Empire of Liberty is both geographically grounded and conceptually expansive. Its release is timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States, positioning the album as an abstract, interpretive reflection rather than a literal commemoration--one that interrogates themes of identity, history, and perception through sound rather than narrative.
Issued as a limited edition CD of 250 copies, this release underscores its status as a carefully constructed, niche artifact within the experimental and industrial music landscape. Challenging, immersive, and unapologetically unconventional, Empire of Liberty stands as a bold statement from artists committed to pushing the boundaries of modern sound.
