'Doors' contains all the elements that make a jazz record modern: knowledge of tradition, the desire to explore, chemistry, interplay, by one of the most brilliant tenor saxophonists in Italy.
Michele Polga is a saxophonist who has long been appreciated throughout the peninsular jazz milieu, accustomed to engaging with high-profile musicians (a name for all is Enrico Pieranunzi), whose stylistic and compositional references draw on the great tenor players of the past: when I asked him, he mentioned in particular the names of Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter. Like every artist with a capital 'A', he does not record much, his last album as a leader dates back to about ten years ago and, in this adventure, he is accompanied by three authentic champions: Alessandro Lanzoni on piano, Gabriele Evangelista on double bass and Bernardo Guerra on drums. They are some of the musicians who are giving prestige to peninsular jazz in these years. And the members of this quartet, through their way of playing, attest to it. There are two types of musicians: those who talk and promote themselves and those who play. These guys play. Nicola Gaeta, from liner notes
