A Night in New Orleans captures acclaimed blues and boogie-woogie pianist Mitch Woods performing live at the legendary Snug Harbor during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Recorded in an intimate solo setting, the album showcases Woods' infectious piano style, spirited vocals, and engaging stage presence while celebrating the rich musical traditions of New Orleans rhythm & blues, jump blues, and classic boogie-woogie.
Born in Brooklyn in 1951, Woods discovered boogie-woogie piano as a child before immersing himself in the jazz and blues scene of Greenwich Village. After relocating to San Francisco in the early 1970s, he formed Mitch Woods & His Rocket 88s, earning international acclaim for energetic performances inspired by legends including Professor Longhair, Fats Domino, and Louis Jordan. His decades-long career has taken him to major festivals worldwide, including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Italy's Umbria Jazz Festival.
