Viral TikTok peasant Netherwilds transforms his political class-struggle metaphor into a bombastic, narrative-driven medieval metal album

Viral TikTok peasant Netherwilds transforms his political class-struggle metaphor into Peasant Rising, a bombastic, narrative-driven medieval metal album (Peasant Rising) through King Volume Records on October 9, 2026.
In late 2024, Tokyo Police Club's David Monks unexpectedly carved out a strange corner of the internet through immersive videos featuring his dirt-covered peasant character, 'Worm Chewer.' Filmed among the stone ruins of the Irish countryside and featuring Monks' convincing, grotesque fake teeth, the videos felt less like sketches and more like reflective transmissions from a long-forgotten century.
As the audience grew across TikTok and Instagram (with videos regularly hitting 1M views), so did the mythology surrounding the character. Beneath the absurdist humour and medieval roleplay was something unexpectedly relatable: a depiction of feudal survival, class division, hunger, labour and desperation that mirrored modern anxieties closely enough to strike a nerve with viewers.
Inspired by the possibility of speaking to people through the fantasy and nerd culture he had loved since childhood, Monks began building a musical world around the character. The first single, 'Return the Goat,' introduced a furious peasant narrator with nothing left to lose--blending everything from blast beats and hardcore breakdowns to bouzoukis, medieval instrumentation and epic storytelling. Though a relative newcomer to metal, Monks approaches it with the intensity of a lifelong outsider finally finding the right language in the genre.
